All DanBred herds are subject to the world´s most stringent rules for the prevention of infections and health control. All data and test results are centrally registered. All DanBred herds are health monitored and health controlled. The control is conducted according to regulations which have been approved by the National Committee for Pig Production. The purpose is to both guarantee a high degree of disease prevention in the herds, and to monitor the herds for a number of diseases which the industry seeks to prevent, such as Salmonella and others.
SPF health controls are carried out in breeding and multiplying herds according to guidelines which have been established in cooperation with the SPF-SuS. SPF is the abbreviation for Specific Pathogen Free. This title indicates that herds, which are ”SPF”, are documented to be free from SPF diseases. SPF-SuS carries out this task in a purely professional manner; without regard to commercial considerations involved with the production and transportation of swine. SPF breeding and production herds, also known as the red SPF herds, constitute the top of the production pyramid, and therefore, because they are the best controlled herds in terms of health, are the best of the certified healthy herds in Denmark.
