Transportation

To prevent the transmission of undesired infections in connection with the transport of animals from the seller to the purchaser’s herd, there has been established a comprehensive set of regulations governing the arraignment and operation of the trucks which are used to transport pigs within the SPF system. These regulations include, among other things,  detailed requirements for the cleaning and disinfection of the trucks. All authorized SPF transporters must enter into an inspection arraignment which includes both running self-checks as well as random, independent spot checks of their standards of cleanliness and desinfection. The Health Control’s regional offices conduct the random, impartial spot checks, and also bears the responsibility of conducting their own inspections, the costs of which being borne by the individual transporters so desiring these inspections.  The inspection is comprised of a thorough review of cleaning procedures, and where applicable, review of theautomatic dosage system. Checks to determine the bacterial levels present upon the cleaning tools and systems themselves are also undertaken. The transportation system is utilized primarily in Denmark.
